About the LaSalle Senior Center:

Founded officially in 1981, the LaSalle Senior Center has had programs serving seniors since 1969. The Near North community of seniors served by the LaSalle Senior Center is socially, economically, and racially diverse. Some of our older friends are middle class, while many live at or below the poverty line and others are homeless. Declining health, limited resources and various social needs often lead to a sense of isolation and loneliness. The LaSalle Senior Center provides emotional and physical support to those older adults experiencing a decrease in self-sufficiency. The Center helps to empower the seniors to use their skills and experiences to remain active and connected to the community. By offering meals, transportation, outings, home visits, special events, and volunteer opportunities - the Center meets the needs of seniors in a tangible way helping them to remain at home.

The LaSalle Senior Center runs on volunteer power. Each year, hundreds of individuals and groups of all ages have played a critical role in serving older adults at the Senior Center. Volunteers prepare and serve weekly meals, visit seniors in their homes, help out with errands, they are available to be a listening friend or deliver flowers to shut-ins. They also take on special projects such as planting our Senior Garden, coordinating our annual fundraiser, creating a brochure or helping a senior move into a new apartment.

WomenOnCall.org has been a wonderful resource of capable, savvy volunteers who have come through for us above and beyond what we even asked for. In June, Kait Carlson came to our aid with her graphic design skills. She helped design a brochure for our Summer Camp for seniors that we had at the end of the month. And it was beautiful, not only were we able to use it to encourage seniors to participate in our program but we had something professional and tangible to hand our sponsors when asking for support. We have never been disappointed with the amazing people at WomenOnCall.org. Thank you!!

"I had a great time working with the LaSalle Senior Center. They are wonderful people. I helped to design a brochure for their annual senior summer camp. They wanted to increase attendance and develop a brochure to hand out, so they contacted me for help. They were amazing to work with and I am glad I had time to help them out. From what they told me, they had a great turn out and were pleased with the outcome of the brochure. I am more than willing to continue to help out WomenOnCall.org. I think it's a great idea of volunteering your expertise and getting involved in the community. I know at times for me Chicago seemed too big, but the more you get involved the more it starts to feel like you can make a difference. WomenOnCall.org is a great way to network and help out nonprofits. "
