Setting Up Your Project for Success
We work hard to educate our nonprofits about skills-based volunteering. Even though our nonprofits have the information needed to post a project and are familiar with managing skilled volunteers, it is helpful to prepare for the project yourself. As you bring in your skills and experience to complete the project, consider these tips:
1. Be upfront about your time commitment
Make sure the deadlines for the project are realistic for you and that you have a mutual understanding of the time commitment required.
2. If you are unsure about the skill demands, ask!
Nonprofits may not know the full range of skills their project requires. If this is the case, schedule a phone conversation with the nonprofit to discuss their goals for the project.
3. Don't be afraid to suggest improvements
If you are familiar with a more efficient way to complete a project or get better results, do not be afraid to offer your suggestions. Use your expertise to look at the project and bring in your fresh perspective.
Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have questions or need assistance connecting with or working with a nonprofit organization. We want to make your WomenOnCall experience the best it can be!
