What is WomenOnCall?

WomenOnCall is a unique, online network created to connect professional women with meaningful causes and relevant skills-based volunteer opportunities. We provide women with an easy, yet powerful and impactful way, to give back and add significant value by sharing their experience and skills with nonprofits looking to fill a specific need.

WomenOnCall aligns the skills, expertise and interests of highly-qualified volunteers with short-term, high-impact projects at trusted nonprofit organizations. Through on-site and virtual volunteer opportunities that require 10 hours of service or less, WomenOnCall members provide skills-based service to further advance an organization’s mission and improve their bottom line.

How do nonprofits get started using WomenOnCall?

You can apply for an account by submitting your organization’s contact information and EIN (also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number) to verify 501(c)(3) status and indicating your current needs. Once approved, you will receive an email to verify your email address and activate your account. You can then log in and provide additional information about your nonprofit.

When a need arises within your organization, you are welcome to post a project and send a project invitation directly to volunteers whose skills and interests match your needs. Once a volunteer expresses interest in the project, you can contact her directly using the contact information provided to you. If the volunteer is a match, you can begin working offline.

What types of volunteer projects can I post on WomenOnCall?

WomenOnCall helps you connect on skills-based projects that require 10 hours of service or less. Our projects fall under the general categories of Business and Financial Operations, Legal, Marketing and Media and Nonprofit Management and Organizational Development. I'm a nonprofit trying to register, but my EIN doesn't work. What should I do?

WomenOnCall uses GuideStar to verify nonprofit members. GuideStar adds nonprofits as they become certified 501(c)(3) organizations, but many new organizations may not be listed. You can add your EIN to the Guidestar database by submitting your Letter of Determination sent by the IRS. You can fax this document to 757-229-8912 or mail it to GuideStar at 4801 Courthouse Street, Suite 220, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Further information is available on GuideStar's website.

What is Virtual Volunteering?

Via phone and email, volunteers can assist your organization regardless of your location. For example, a woman in Portland could volunteer for a nonprofit with offices in Boston by drafting a news release about an upcoming event.

I have not gotten any responses to my posting. What should I do?

You may want to rewrite the project description to provide more detail or reduce the project scope. In addition, consider ways that the project could be completed virtually. Many of our volunteers are located throughout the country, so virtual volunteering projects offer you a wider array of volunteers who might match your needs.
